How to get the motivation to exercise?

Do you feel like you need to lose weight? Did you gain an extra 5 pounds after you said your new year’s resolution was to drop 5 pounds? Then you should try exercising. Sounds easy right. Just get on a treadmill or go for a run and there you go, simple. But if your like me and have been trying to have a week filled with exercise for the past 2 years, it’s time to talk about how to motivate yourself.

Believe it or not this is the hardest part of losing weight. Let’s not even mention diet, cause forcing yourself to eat salad instead of a burger will be an ongoing struggle, trust me. Here’s what I do to motivate myself.

My first step was to find a photo of me slimmer and strive to be that size again. If you don’t have this, try to find a realistic photo of someone famous on insta that has a body type you hope to someday get to. I have tons saved in my insta, so it’s not weird trust me.

Now try and understand that you may never look like that person, but you will get to a better version of yourself and be more confident. I like to think of things that I would like to do this summer in order to strive for this. I wanna take bikini pics by the beach or pool. I wanna rock a revealing outfit that shows my belly. Now go buy it. Pick it out at the store and try it on and buy it. My mother has brought me to the store so many times and I’ve tried on a dress that was too tight and she’d say, “It’s on clearance, where it when you lose weight”. It may sound wacky but it’s a step closer to you actually watching what you eat believe it or not.

Another big step is to find the time in your schedule. I know what it likes to have the kind of schedule that feel like you can’t fit in exercise. Like do I really wanna workout right after school when I only have 2 hours before work. No I don’t. I rather watch netflix, or do something else that’s lazy and requires lack of movement.What you really need to think about, is how much time do you have?

I have 2 hours right? So why not do a 30 min workout. You don’t need to work out for an hour or 2 hours to see progress. Three 30 min workouts 3x a week is enough to start off. I’ve walked on the treadmill for 20 mins before at 3 mph and didn’t sweat. You need to actually move; I’ve danced while walking on it while holding 5 pound dumbbells, it had me sweating. Now don’t attempt spins and exc. That can be dangerous. Or even get a gym membership at a gym that has workout classes, and if money is the issue there are cheap gyms. I just got a membership at “Crunch fitness” and they have 30 min classes provided with your membership for only $20 a month. Having a friend that is motivated helps as well, because then you both can workout together. Although if your friend is slacking don’t let them hold you back! Don’t allow your excuse to be, “I didn’t go cause my friend didn’t”, because that’s all that is, an excuse not a reason. I’ll be honest the first couple times you workout in a week you might feel pretty tired, but before you know it, it will actually wake you up and you’ll feel good.

Diet is important too. Now I don’t have one of those grade A diet’s, believe me. But I don’t eat a lot of desserts or drink soda mainly cause my sisters. not allowed to have it. I also don’t eat a lot of fattening meals, when I eat out. I get things I like, but more healthier versions I guess you can say. Like when I go to Chipotle, as much as I want a rice bowl I get a salad bowl instead. Let’s say if I go to Panera, I’ll get a salad and soup instead of a sandwich and soup. I’m not saying you can’t get the option you prefer, that’s just what I do and what works for me. Plus I can eat quite a bit at dinner time which is a big NO NO!!! We eat as a king at breakfast ,a queen at lunch, and also a pauper at dinner. So try your best to have something smaller at dinner time.

Anyways I hope I’ve given you an insight on some motivation to start exercising. Let’s remember it’s ok if you stop for a week or go off your diet for a week, it happens. But you need to try and keep that motivation. Setting reminders on your phone to workout is great way to remind yourself. It will make you feel bad when you forget, trust me. So without further adieu, fitness is key to a more active you, which equals a happier you, so get on it.
